What is a Periodontist?

A periodontist is a dentist who attends 3 years of additional training following dental school and specializes in: placing dental implants, fixing gum recession, and treating gum disease. Dr. Jeffery Jensen is one of the few board certified periodontists in the state and is practicing locally in Kaysville, Utah.

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide a reliable way to replace missing or broken teeth. Dental implants are a proven long-term replacement option that provide natural looking crowns and function. Implants provide a multitude of options and we will work with you to choose the option that best helps you achieve your best smile.

Why Implants?

Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth—and for good reason. They’re designed to look, feel, and function just like natural teeth, offering a number of important advantages:

  • Natural Function & Appearance
Implants are anchored securely into the jawbone, providing a firm and stable foundation for a custom crown that looks and feels like your natural tooth.

  • Long-Lasting & Durable
With proper care, dental implants can last for decades—often a lifetime—making them a smart, long-term investment in your oral health.

  • No Impact on Surrounding Teeth
Unlike bridges or partial dentures, implants don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support. This means your healthy teeth stay untouched and preserved.

  • Improved Comfort & Confidence
Because they become part of your jaw, implants eliminate the discomfort and slipping that can come with removable dentures—allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

  • Preservation of Bone & Facial Structure
Implants help prevent the bone loss that typically follows tooth loss, preserving your facial shape and jaw strength over time.

Whether you’re missing one tooth or several, dental implants offer a reliable, natural-looking solution that supports both oral health and self-confidence.

Great Smiles Start with a Great Foundation

Just like any strong building needs a solid foundation, a great smile starts with healthy, balanced gums. When your gum line is even and your teeth are in proportion, your smile can truly shine.

We specialize in gum surgery to gently reshape the gum line and replace missing gum tissue—helping your smile look its best and stay healthy for years to come.

Why the Gum Line Matters

Your gums frame your teeth—so when the gum line is uneven or too high or low, it can affect the overall look of your smile. Common concerns include:

  • Excess gum tissue that makes teeth look short or uneven

  • Receding gums that expose tooth roots and cause sensitivity

  • Asymmetrical gums that throw off the balance of your smile

These issues aren’t just cosmetic. Gum recession, for example, can lead to other oral health problems if not treated.

Gum Contouring

For some of us, a “gummy smile” can make teeth appear smaller than they actually are. This happens when there’s too much gum tissue covering the teeth, throwing off the natural balance and proportion of the smile.

Fortunately, there's a simple solution. Gum contouring—also known as crown lengthening—is a precise procedure that removes excess gum tissue and reshapes the gum line. By revealing more of your natural tooth surface, it helps create a more balanced, attractive smile.

Often, even small adjustments can lead to big improvements in both appearance and confidence.

Gum Grafts

When gum tissue pulls away from the teeth—a condition known as gum recession—it can expose the sensitive roots of your teeth and affect the look of your smile. Over time, this can also lead to discomfort and increased risk of tooth or bone loss.

Gum grafting is a proven treatment used to replace missing gum tissue and cover exposed roots. In addition to making your smile look healthier and more attractive, grafts can:

  • Reduce tooth sensitivity

  • Protect vulnerable tooth roots

  • Support the long-term health of your teeth and jawbone

If you’ve noticed your gums pulling back or teeth looking “longer” than they used to, a gum graft may be the solution to restore both function and aesthetics.

Healthy Tissues Lead to Healthy Teeth

A beautiful smile is about more than just straight, white teeth—it also depends on the health of the gums and bone that support them. These surrounding tissues play a vital role in both the appearance and long-term stability of your smile.

When plaque and bacteria build up around the teeth, they can cause inflammation and damage to the gums and supporting bone. Left untreated, this can lead to gum disease, which affects not only your oral health but your overall well-being.

We specialize in diagnosing and treating all stages of gum disease, from early signs of gingivitis to more advanced periodontal issues. With expert care and personalized treatment plans, we help restore gum health and protect your teeth for the long run.

Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing)

The first step in treating gum disease is often a deep cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing. This non-surgical procedure removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line, helping to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Deep cleanings not only improve gum health but can also significantly reduce bad breath caused by bacteria buildup. It’s a simple yet powerful way to restore your gums and prevent more serious issues down the road.

Periodontal Surgery

In more advanced cases of gum disease, deep cleaning alone may not be enough. That’s when periodontal surgery becomes necessary to remove infected tissue, repair damage, and rebuild lost support structures around the teeth.

Depending on your specific needs, treatment may involve procedures like bone grafting, gum grafting, or pocket reduction. Our team provides compassionate, customized care every step of the way, with the goal of restoring both your oral health and your confidence.

Bone Grafting

Bone loss can result from gum disease, tooth loss, or natural changes in the jaw, such as sinus expansion. When this happens, it can make dental implants difficult or even impossible without rebuilding the bone first.

We specialize in bone grafting, a safe and effective procedure that replaces lost bone and strengthens your jaw. This not only restores function and support for your teeth but also makes it possible to move forward with dental implants or other restorative treatments.

Bone grafting is an important step in rebuilding a healthy, strong foundation for your smile.

We understand that dental procedures can be stressful for some patients.

That’s why we offer three types of sedation, so you can feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible during your visit.

Sedation Options:

  • Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas):
A gentle, fast-acting option that helps you feel calm during your procedure. It wears off quickly, so you can drive yourself home afterward.

  • Oral Sedation:
Taken in the office 30 minutes before your appointment, this medication helps you deeply relax. You will remain awake but at ease.

A driver is required to take you home.

  • IV Sedation:
A deeper form of sedation, ideal for those with higher anxiety or complex procedures. You’ll feel as if you slept through the entire treatment.

A driver is required to take you home.

Your safety and peace of mind matter to us. We’ll help you choose the sedation option that best fits your needs and comfort level.
